先週から「はこゆめ」の中の観音様がお尻に変わってます。

『はこゆめ』
襲筥-for polaroid

大切なものを包むもの、内包する箱を、日本の文化では大切にしてきました。お経をいれる冊子箱、宝珠箱、そして開ければ時間が流れ出す浦島太郎の玉手筥…。
Thomasのポラロイド写真には美しい女性達の姿が納められていますが、儚さも感じます。一期一会の夢のような時間、逆に言えば一度きりしか訪れない瞬間。ポラロイドというのもまた、時を閉じ込めた筥なのかもしれません。
この作品は額縁ではありません。女性の観音様のような瞬間が写ったポラロイドを守る、二重の筥であり、さらには、ポラロイド自体を前述のように一瞬を封印する筥ととらえれば、三重に襲ねられた筥でもあるのです。

In Japanese culture, we have cherished things that wrap important things and boxes that can hold them. A sacred box to put sutras, a sacred jem box, and Taro Urashima’s treasure box where time flows when opened.
Thomas’s Polaroid photos show beautiful womens, but they also feel ephemeral. A dream-like time of a once-in-a-lifetime meeting, or conversely, a moment that you only visit once. Polaroid may also be a precious little box for contain moment.
This work is not a picture frame. It is a double box that protects the polaroid of a beautiful woman like Kannon, and if you think of the polaroid itself as a box that seals the moment as mentioned above, it is also a triple-layered box.
